Burnoff on Mt Cargill

The clip shows burn off on farmland on Mt Cargill, Otago near Dunedin on a beautiful, sunny winter's day June 2006. It was a really still day so the smoke was lingering and diffusing slowly down towards North East Valley to add to the pollution.

I took the video because the smoke really bothered me and I wanted to show how it created pollution and drifted down the valley. They have banned coal fires in Dunedin city to stop pollution in the winter, and the council is thinking about banning all log burners and open fires. This is to stop the smog which builds up in the valleys e.g. North East Valley, and causes lots of health problems such as respiratory illness.

Well they may ban fires in home, but I wonder will they ban burnoffs such as the one shown in this video. I wasn't able to capture the smoke drifting down the valley because the memory was full, but it was horrifying. The smoke drifted right down to NE Valley and just hung there all smoggy.
